During the December 13 Board of Trustees meeting, Mr. Art Dobbs, Principal of Pierce Street Elementary, was recognized as the 2017 Administrator of the Year for Tupelo Public School District. Mr. Dobbs was selected by his colleagues and Superintendent for this honor.
Mr. Dobbs is a life-long resident of Tupelo. He also bleeds blue and gold! His father, Dale, served as principal at several of our schools and his mother Ruth, served as teacher and Federal Programs Director. His wife, Shelly, is also an educator. Mr. Dobbs is a THS grad (Class of 1994) and received his undergraduate from Mississippi State University. He also has graduate degrees from Walden University and from Delta State. And he’s a life-long learner as he currently works on his doctorate from William Carey University. In 2001, Mr. Dobbs joined the TPSD family and began his career teaching History and PE at THS. He also coached THS baseball and TMS football. He then went to become an assistant principal there. In 2014, Mr. Dobbs became principal at Pierce Street. “I’m really honored to receive this award. It represents the wonderful staff, students, parents and community we have here at Pierce Street Elementary. I’m sincerely grateful for this recognition from Tupelo Public Schools,” said Mr. Dobbs.
“I’ve worked with Art for almost 5 years and have enjoyed watching him grow from Assistant Principal to Principal. His staff at Pierce Street is well-rounded and very capable. I also appreciate that he’s taken an active leadership role in our district’s administrative team. It’s really great seeing him being recognized by his peers,” said Superintendent Dr. Gearl Loden.
